These are illustrations I did for MSC Japan (Marine Stewardship Council), and are quite straight forward. The purpose of this project was to make posters and banners to promote their MSC labels on packages in supermarkets so that the consumers are able to tell if the fish are certified sustainable seafood and from the proper route.
As a former biology graduate, this was a fun theme for me. I have always been interested in environmental and ecological issues. The challenge was to find a fine line between realism and stylization when it comes to depict such creatures. Salmon and bonito were somewhat manageable but the crab was a tough one. Since I was not supposed to make up imaginary crabs, it was important to decide which kind to illustrate. A swimming crab was my final choice as I thought it looked interesting in shape and would make a good picture.

I love collaborating with Creaturemag and 2012 has seen my Fortnightly ‘Freak Of The Week’ slot develop and grow. As Its nearly the new year and I’m in a somewhat reflective mood, I thought I would put together my own personal Top 10 favourite Freaks from 2012.
More Creature collaborations in 2013.
